Remembering the legacy of Bud Cloud

May 18, 2015

Meet Bud Cloud…a man who served his country during Pearl Harbor on the USS Dewey (DD-349).

In hospice care, his last dying wish was a trip to “visit the Navy in San Diego.” So after an email and phone conversation with former Marine sergeant, Mrs. Mandy McCammon, Bud was granted access to a “windshield tour” of the current USS Dewey (DDG 105).

Upon arriving a few days later, below is the greeting that was arranged for Bud…who had started to cry before the doors of the van even opened. When they got out, Mandy said, “They’re all here for you, Bud.”

Sadly Bud passed away only 13 days later. But for 12 of those 13 days he talked about the Dewey, the Sailors, and his visit to San Diego. GMC Eisman (a member of the ship’s crew) even arranged for a full honors burial…with every Sailor returning to pay their respects.

NEVER forget what these men and women do for our country. It’s our responsibility as human beings to show them the respect they’ve earned. RIP Bud. Job well done.
