Today in history: Veteran Spotlight

November 19, 2014

Today marks a very important moment in the history of the Vietnam War. On Aug 11, 1972, the last U.S. ground combat unit in South Vietnam, the Third Battalion, Twenty-First Infantry, departed for the United States. Those who survived were finally able to come home to their families.

The unit had been guarding the U.S. air base at Da Nang. This left only 43,500 advisers, airmen, and support troops left in-country. This number did not include the sailors of the Seventh Fleet on station in the South China Sea or the air force personnel in Thailand and Guam.

Never forget when these brave men sacrificed. Honor them each and every day, giving special thanks to those are still alive today…AND to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
