Today in history – the Hoover Dam project

October 13, 2014

Today back in 1930, construction of the Hoover Dam began! After 5 years of intense labor and a total of 21,000 men working ceaselessly, it became known as the largest dam of its time, as well as one of the largest man-made structures in the world.

Thought President Hoover played a crucial role in the dam’s construction, it was actually Arthur Powell Davis, an engineer from the Bureau of Reclamation, who originally had a vision for the Hoover Dam back in 1902. It was his engineering report that became the guiding document when plans were finally made to begin the dam in 1922.

So today we shine some light on a legacy that many forget when thinking about the dam’s history. Mr. Arthur Davis – a man with a simple vision…who then helped changed America’s landscape forever.
