Man Rides Bicycle Across Country In Support Of Children’s Advocacy

April 28, 2016

Imagine yourself as a passenger on a scenic ride, relaxing along the mountains of Pennsylvania, enjoying the cool breeze of the Mississippi River, and watching the sunset across the plains of South Dakota.

Well for David Higgins, this dream vacation of touring the country is now becoming a reality. But it isn’t just for fun. He’s traveling coast to coast in support of a great cause.

And he’s doing it on two wheels.

Higgins, a avid bicyclist with a passion for long-distance riding, recently began a journey from Washington State to New York. Hs mission – to raise awareness about Children Advocacy centers.

According to his GoFundMe page, Higgins is an adult survivor of childhood sexual abuse. In the aftermath of the abuse, he and his family received care services from Rural Resources Victim Services, a children’s advocacy center that serves Stevens County, Washington.

It turns out their support was an integral part of his healing. And he now wants to help others in a similar situation understand the benefits that a children’s advocacy center model can provide.

So his goal on this cross country bike trip is to heighten awareness of child sexual abuse, and to raise funds for sexual abuse prevention education. Higgins has recently made stops in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.

Let’s show Higgins some love and follow his journey on Facebook!
