As parents we are obligated to protect our children. It is our responsibility to ensure they remain safe, and to help them understand the potential dangers surrounding them.
And if our children suddenly find themselves in a precarious situation, we immediately sprint into action to save them.
But nowhere in the unwritten code book does it say children have to do the same for their parents. Especially not a 5-year-old girl.
Yet that is exactly what happened in Portland, Texas.
Earlier this year, 5-year-old Allison Anderwald was enjoying a day in the pool with her mom Tracy when the unexpected happened.
Tracy began having an uncontrollable seizure, and struggled to stay afloat.
When young Allison realized what was happening, she took on that parental responsibility and jumped into action in order to save her mommy’s life.
Immediately after the seizure started, Allison (already an accomplished swimmer) dove into the deep water and used all of her might to pull her mom to the shallow end. They eventually reached shallow ground, where she positioned her mom’s head above water and ran inside for help.
Several of Allison’s family members then came out to help Allison’s mom out of the water.
With several people struggling to pull Tracy out of the pool, as a result of the both the water weight and dead weight from her lifeless body, their aunt Tedra Hunt was shocked young Allison found the strength to pull her to safety.
Tracy was admitted to the hospital and later released without any serious long term injuries, all due to the heroic act of 5-year-old Allison…who some believe will soon be accepting job offers as an official lifeguard.
